Dan Wetzel has lectured, guided and studied the ecology, geology and climate of Alaska for more than 40 years, as well served on state and federal conservation commissions, and a director on university educational and research affiliates.

Day 1 -
Fairbanks
Today you arrive in Fairbanks at you leisure. You overnight and relax. The balance of the day is free to discover the Golden Heart City.
Day 2 -
Fairbanks - Home of the Gold Rush
This morning you are greeted Alaska's senior naturalist guide. You will be given an overview of the next seven days and it is off to explore. Fairbanks is Alaska's historic center for gold-rush, Native cultures and arctic science. We visit University of Alaska Museum of North, Muskoxen Research Facility and Botanical Garden and learn how gold and black gold have shaped this town. L
Day 3 - Cross the Alaska Range to
Denali
We depart today by our private van led by our guide. We will have an early departure to Denali Country, as we transition between the northern Eskimo habitat and the interior Indians. We see the effects of a changing climate as we transition from the Yukon River Basin to the mountainous Alaska Range. As we arrive at the Park we check-in to our cabins for two nights near Denali Park. This afternoon we will visit the Murie Science Center, interpretive exhibits at visitor center, and start to learn about this rich geological and wildlife habitat know as Denali National Park. We will time for some fun activities such as rafting, flightseeing and nature walks. B
Day 4 - Day of
Denali Exploration
Enjoy a day-long wildlife and wilderness excursion into the park on a coach with an escort. Travel deep into Denali National Park completes the day. With good luck, a good look at Mt. McKinley, North America's tallest mountain. The evening is free for personal interests and activities. B
Day 5 -
Denali to
Wasilla
We depart Denali. With clear weather, we have some of the best views of Mt. McKinley as we head south to Wasilla home of the headquarters for Iditarod Sled Dog Race. A clear day will give us full views of grandeur of Mt. McKinley. Learn about "The Last Great Race" and how it impacts life in Alaska. We spend the night at the Lake Lucille Inn. B
Day 6 - Kenai Coastal Forest
Today we depart for a fascinating day exploring the nature of the Kenai Peninsula. As we head south we enter the Chugach, America's second largest national forest and land of giant trees, ancient glaciers and North Pacific Ocean. We explore and learn about powerful forces of nature at Portage Glacier Interpretive Center and watch the change as we head through Moose Pass and descend to the ocean in Seward. The evening is free for individual interests and activities. B, L
Day 7 -
Kenai Fjords Park - puffins, whales and tidewater glaciers
A specially designed ocean wildlife-viewing vessel takes us deep into the Kenai Fjords National Park and Maritime Wildlife Refuge - this will be our chance to video calving icebergs. "Thar she blows" as we search the volcanic cliffs for seabirds, sea lions and sea otters. L
Day 8 - Science, hiking and fishing
Today, we trade sea-legs for hiking boots as we explore Exit Glacier and walk nearby forest trails.
We'll learn about marine research at the Alaska SeaLife Center. Fishing charters available for the fishermen and we can arrange to have your catch sent home. Depart late in afternoon for Anchorage. B
Day 9 - Native art and history and a fond farewell to Alaska
This morning we conclude our Discovery of Alaska with a visit to the Anchorage Museum of History and Art, a perfect complement to the natural science Museum of North in Fairbanks, and a perfect conclusion to our Parks, Wildlife and Cultural Safari. Depart this afternoon and evening departures at your convenience for your journey homeward.
