Join Dan Wetzel, a 41-year Arctic Alaska resident, biologist, nature and birding guide on the best natural history and wildlife tour of Alaska. Dan Wetzel has lectured, guided and studied the ecology, geology and climate of Alaska for more than 40 years, as well served on state and federal conservation commissions, and a director on university educational and research affiliates.

The Arctic Nature Safari
Day 1 - Arrive
Prudhoe
This morning you jet over the Arctic Circle to Prudhoe Bay, home of America's largest oil fields. You are met by your guide and naturalist. You begin your exploration immediately as your guide reviews the itinerary. You will hike the Tundra under the Midnight Sun. Your guide will point out the wildlife and birds that call this area home. You will also take an escorted trip through oil fields to Arctic Ocean. At dinner tonight you will be joined by scientists studying climate change s and permafrost geologists. L, D
Day 2 - Tundra hiking and rare birds
This morning will focus on bird watching for the Tundra Swan, Spectacled Eider, Ptarmigan, rare Siberian sandpipers and arctic fox. In the afternoon you drive south across coastal tundra to foothills of the
Brooks Range to view muskoxen, caribou, Gyrfalcon and Bluethroats. Dinner tonight is a buffet fit for a king. After dinner you venture out on a wildlife search. B, L, D
Day 3 - Wildlife watching and mountain photography
Departing Prudhoe Bay you travel along the Dalton Highway (Haul Road) to
Coldfoot following Trans Alaska Pipeline across Brooks Range. The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to east and Gates of Arctic National Park to west. Cross Arctic Continental Divide. Premium wildlife habitat as we search for grizzly, Dall sheep, wolf and birds of the tundra. Nearby are ancient Eskimo and Indian archaeological sites. This area is a photographers' dreamland. B, L
Day 4 - Gold rush history and a day of nature discovery
You travel today to explore the historic Koyukuk gold mining community, Wiseman, made famous by Robert Marshall, a founder of the Wilderness Society. You will spend most of the day in Atigun Pass for searching for wildlife, birds, hiking, flowers and photos. B, L
Day 5 - Crossing the Arctic Circle and travel the Yukon River Basin
We bid fond farewell to the rugged Brooks Range. Dalton Highway is paved from here on smooth, quiet morning drive. You will cross the Arctic Circle at 66° 33' North. As you arrive at Finger Mountain this will be your last chance to photograph tundra landscape as you then cross the Yukon River and into a new climatic zone and landscape. This area is home to the Den'yee Athabascan Indians. One of the great sights today is the Yukon Flats Wildlife Refuge. Your guide will explain all about these great landscapes and how through Alaska's oldest landscapes, then into Fairbanks. B, L
Day 6 - Gold Rush town
Fairbanks is the gateway and main transportation hub to the Arctic. Alaska's historic center for gold-rush history, Native cultures, northern exploration and arctic science. We visit University of Alaska Museum of North, Georgeson Botanical Garden and Alaska Bird Observatory. Farewell festivities and highlights of our Arctic Nature Safari. L
Day 7 - Farewell to Alaska
Your Arctic Safari ends with your transfer to the Airport and your journey home. Ask us about extensions to this trip to add to your Alaskan vacation.
